Rembrandt is renowned worldwide not only

as a painter but also as a master draughtsman and engraver. Throughout his career Rembrandt worked with the etching needle, embracing the same wide range of subjects as in his paintings, such as (self) portraits, landscapes, and religious and mythological themes.

The exhibition Rembrandt – Photographer avant la lettre brings these subjects
together in a selection of some 80 works and explores the unique way of looking at reality through the eye of this world-famous artist: an almost contemporary and photographic view of the world in an era that long predates the invention of photography.
