Visitor regulations – Museum De Reede, Antwerp

1. Introduction:

Welcome to Museum De Reede. To ensure that your visit is pleasant, safe and respectful, we ask you to read and comply with these visitor regulations. They apply to all visitors, regardless of the purpose of their visit (exhibitions, lectures, receptions, meetings, etc.). 

By entering the museum, you automatically agree to the provisions of these regulations. Visitors must follow these regulations, as well as the instructions of the museum staff. Refusal to comply may result in refusal of entry or, in the case of serious offences, the involvement of official authorities.


  • 2. Opening hours and access:

    - The museum is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, from 11:00 to 17:00. Any changes will be announced on the website and on the information screen.

    - You are kindly requested to finish your visit in good time, around 16:55. 

    - The museum is closed on 1 January and 24, 25 and 31 December.

    - Access to the exhibition rooms is only possible after payment of the entrance fee. All rates can be consulted on the website and at the museum entrance.

 

3. Permitted and prohibited items:

  • - Only light, non-obtrusive pushchairs are permitted, always accompanied by an adult. Large pushchairs or other vehicles are not permitted, with the exception of (electric) wheelchairs. 

    - Large pushchairs, umbrellas (wet or dry), suitcases, shopping bags and all rucksacks larger than A4 size (29 x 24 cm) are not permitted in the exhibition rooms. 

    - Museum staff are authorised to decide whether or not an item may be brought into the museum during a visit.

    - Food, drink and any items that may endanger safety or the artworks are prohibited.

4. Cloakroom and lockers:

4.1. Lost and found items: 

  • - Lost property found within the museum must be handed in to museum staff.

    - The museum will endeavour to identify the owner. If the item is not collected after 7 days, it will be reported to the relevant municipal services. 

    - Lost property will be kept for a maximum of 6 months, unless it is perishable, harmful or worthless.

    - If the owner comes forward, the item can be collected upon presentation of identification and a clear description.

    - Unclaimed items will be donated to charity or destroyed after the retention period, depending on their condition or value. 


5. Rules in the museum:

5.1 Behaviour:

  • - Visitors are expected to behave calmly and respectfully. All instructions from museum staff must be followed.

    - Artworks may not be touched. Please do not obstruct or disturb other visitors.

    - Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited in the galleries.

    - Distributing advertising material or carrying out commercial activities is not permitted.

 

6. Staff authority:

Museum staff are authorised to address visitors about inappropriate behaviour, refuse them entry, or ask them to leave the museum in the event of: 

  • - Violation of the regulations.

    - Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour.

    - Endangering works of art, visitors or staff.


7. Visitor behaviour:

7.1 Mandatory behaviour

Visitors are expected: 

  • - To behave in an orderly and calm manner.

    - To show respect for works of art, other visitors and staff.

    - To follow instructions from staff immediately.

    - Not to enter closed or prohibited areas.

    - Not to bring pets (assistance dogs are permitted).

7.2 Prohibited actions and items

The following items are not permitted:

  • - Large rucksacks (larger than A4 size). 

    - Suitcases, shopping bags, large handbags.

    - Umbrellas (wet or dry).

    - Food or drink in the museum galleries.

    - Flash units, selfie sticks, tripods.

    - Large pushchairs.

    - Advertising or promotional material without the permission of the management team.

Prohibited behaviour: 

  • - Touching artworks.

    - Smoking, vaping or using e-cigarettes.

    - Talking loudly, running, pushing or aggressive behaviour.

    - Using mobile phones in exhibition rooms.

    - Deliberately damaging exhibition materials or furnishings.

    - Taking photos or videos of other visitors without their permission.


8. Photography, film and sound recordings:

  • - Photography and filming for private use is permitted provided that no flash, tripod, selfie stick or cameras with automatic focus that emit a beam of light are used.
     
    - Professional recordings (including the use of lighting, tripods or interviews) are only permitted with the formal consent of the management team.

    - Sound recordings (e.g. for podcasts, interviews) may only take place after prior formal approval by the management team. 

    - Security installations, museum staff and other visitors may not be filmed or photographed without explicit permission.

    - Recordings intended for publication (print, television, social media, etc.) require permission from the management team and the persons involved.

 

9. Safety of visitors, artworks and staff:

  • - Actions that endanger the safety of persons or works of art are strictly prohibited.

    - In the event of incidents, accidents or illness, you must immediately notify the staff.

    - Fire, power failure or evacuation? Calmly follow the instructions of the staff. The use of lifts is then prohibited. 

    - Visitors are not permitted to leave any items unattended in the exhibition rooms.

    - Only authorised staff are permitted to move works of art or display cases.

    - Intentional damage, theft or vandalism will be reported to the police immediately and may result in further legal action.


10. Suggestions and complaints:

You can report comments, suggestions or complaints to the information desk or via the general email address that you can find on our website.

 

11. Exceptional circumstances:

The museum reserves the right to take appropriate measures in exceptional circumstances (e.g. overcrowding, technical malfunctions, security threats): 

  • - Take temporary measures.

    - Temporarily deny visitors access.

    - Adjust opening hours.

    - Close off areas.
